The Vapour Solutions Night at the Races was the kickoff to the 2016 season for the Richlock Rentals Non Winged Sprint Cars, Galaxy Motors Stocks Cars, OTRA, IMS4 Mini Stocks, and the Island Dwarf Cars. Beautiful weather greeted the fans and drivers who came out, a far cry from last Saturday’s cold and rain
The first main event of the evening was the Dwarf Cars. Tovay Helgesen led 10 cars to the green in the 25 lap main, and pulled out a half second gap over second place Mike Meeres. Meeres would track down Helgesen, and showing no rust from a year off, pulled away. Meeres would lead the rest of the race, which went caution free, and crossed the line ahead of Helgesen, Mike French, Brad Struck, and Brad Scafe. The trophy dash win went to Brad Struck, with heat race wins going to Miles Maxie and Brad Scafe.
The OTRA was next up, with Aaron Wilkie and Matt Verhagen leading the field of 8 cars to the green for 25 laps. Verhagen would briefly take the lead in the number 34 car, before giving way to the hard charging Larry Joyce in the 22 car. Joyce would stretch his lead over the 09 of Thane Pipe, who was making his oval racing debut, and took the checkered flag ahead of Pipe, Troy Tarbuck, Doug Richens, and Aaron Wilkie. The trophy dash win went to George Jenson, with the heat race victory going to Matt.
The IMS4 Mini Stocks had Jeremy Waksel and Bobby Ryan lead the field to the green flag. Caleb Van Bree in the 29 car took the lead heading down the back straight, and battled with Alex Mouner in the 96 car for several laps. Van Bree finally cleared Mouner with 12 laps to go, and checked out on the field, with Ryan Patterson getting around Mouner for second spot. Van Bree held off Ryan Patterson, Alex Mouner, Matt Szauer, and Bobby Ryan for the main event win. The trophy dash went to Ryan Patterson, with the heat race win going to Caleb Van Bree.
14 cars took the green for the Galaxy Motors Stock Car main event. The field was led to the green by Wayne “The Train” Hart and Steve Miller. Hart would grab the lead for 5 laps before Chris McInerney in the 25 car swooped past. The defending Stock Car champion proceeded to run away from the rest of the field, and captured the main event win, followed by Kyle Cottam, Brendan Moore, Dave Reside, and Wayne Hart. The trophy dash win went to Dave Reside, with heat race wins going to Steve Miller and Wayne Hart.
Brad Purdey and Jarrod Heap led 15 cars to the green in the Richlock Rentals Non Winged Sprint Car main event. On lap 2, Dave Emmerson would charge into the lead, and build a big gap to second place Guy Barrett. The red flag would come out on lap number 16 when Mike Haslam lost a right front wheel, and crashed head on into the turn 4 wall with such force that it cracked the concrete.. Haslam was alright, but the car was heavily damaged. On the restart Emmerson managed to pull further away from new second place man Jeff Montgomery, and looked certain for victory, when Ryan Orchard spun with 1 lap to go, setting up a green white checkered. Going into turn three on the last lap, Montgomery went up the inside of Emmerson for the lead, the two cars made contact, sending Emmerson slamming into the turn 4 wall. The red flag again came out, setting up another restart. Guy Barrett would survive the ensuing restart to win over Jeff Bird, Brad Purdey, Jarrod Heap, and James Miller. The trophy dash win went to Ryan Orchard, with heat race wins going to Dave Emmerson and Jeff Montgomery.
