This past weekend, Western Speedway played host to the Nichol Marine Night at the Races, featuring the LORDCO Auto Parts Demo Series, Bombers, Mini Figure 8’s, and the Loan Ranger Financial Claimers, as well as an exhibition from Richlock Rentals Capital Drift.
The first main event of the evening was for the Mini Figure 8’s, with Luke Currie and Spencer Thompson leading the field to the green. Currie would lead initially, with Ryley Noyce snatching first on lap four. Kail Beck would push his way to the top spot on lap ten, and would survive the rest of the main out front to nab his fourth straight main event win in a row. Sam Lagan, Kyle Ridley, Ryley Noyce, and Stephen Green rounded out the top five. Kyle Ridley won the dash, with Rhett Szevics and Luke Currie bringing home heat race wins.
The Claimers were the first oval track main event of the night, with George Newell and Morgan Tallyn leading the field to the green. Newell would be black flagged early on in the main for rough driving, with Curtis Boyce jumping out front. Kevin Knight worked his way to the lead by lap eight, and pulled away from the rest of the field for the main event win. Curtis Boyce, Allana Jacobs, Kyle Rizok, and Derrick Jackson rounded out the top five. The dash win went to George Newell, with heat race wins going to Kyle Rizok and Kevin Knight.
The Bomber main event was up next, with Terry Leerholm and Brian Wakelin making up the front row. Leerholm led the opening 5 laps, before being passed by Ron Benham for the lead. Benham would be out front for the next seven laps, before a mechanical gremlin meant that the 14 car had to pull into the pits. Sean Whitley inherited the lead, and fended off a strong charge from Rich Gerhardt for the win. The dash win went to Tony Kambo, with Terry Leerholm and Jarrod Soberg winning heat races.
The last main event of the evening was for the Demo Cars and Trucks, with Richard Morgan and Billy Stidston leading the field to the green. Stidston would lead early, with Wayne “The Train” Hart slotting into second. Hart would make the move for the lead on lap six, with Shawn Young making his way up to second. Hart would lose a left front tire with just five laps left to go, allowing Shawn Young to drive around him for the lead and the win. The two dash wins went to Brandon Young and Shawn Hansen, with heat race wins going to Cody Young and Richard Morgan.
The next race at Western Speedway is June 30th and July 1st, for the Used.ca Mid Season Championship, featuring the AMCA Dwarf Car Invitational, Wayne’s Trucking Winged Sprint Cars, Galaxy Motors Stock Cars, Sooke Disposal Mini Stocks, and the Marlin Motors Hornets.
