This past Saturday night, Western Speedway played host to the championship night for the Keg Late Model Series. As well as the Twin 50 lap mains, the evening also featured the Galaxy Motors Stock Cars, IMS4 Mini Stocks, and the Marlin Motors Hornets.
The Keg Late Models first main event of the evening was led to the green by Phil Lagan and Mike Soppitt. Lagan would lead early on, with Geoff Morris taking the lead on lap nine. On lap eighteen the caution would come out for Shaun Ross and Wade Bland, with both drivers getting sent to the rear. Dave Hemrich would take the lead on the restart, and would win ahead of a hard charging Wade Bland, who went from eleventh all the way to second. Brent Morris, Aaron Wilkie, and Geoff Morris rounded out the top five.
The Marlin Motors Hornets were the next main event, with Mika Leong and Ryan McHale leading the field to the green. Nolan Perry would jump out to an early lead , with Jason Day charging up to second. Day would pass Perry for the lead on lap six, and then proceeded to lap the field up to fifth place. Day would win his second big track race in a row ahead of Bailey Walker, Nolan Perry, Braydon Aumen, and Ryan Alexander. The dash win went to Ashley Creed, with heat race wins going to Jason Day and Ashley Creed.
The IMS4 Mini Stocks were next, with Stu Ferguson and Matt Szauer leading the field to the green. Szauer would jump out front on lap three, with some of the faster cars stuck in traffic behind. On lap seventeen, Ryan Patterson made a move on the outside of Szauer for the lead, and held on for the win, ahead of Matt Szauer, Stu Ferguson, Sean Constantine, and Caleb Van Bree. The dash win went to Sean Constantine, with the heat race win going to Caleb Van Bree.
The Galaxy Motors Stock Cars were the next main event, with Tyler Robinson and Jim Steen leading the field to the green. Robinson would take the lead on the start, with Chris McInerney and Mark Lockhart waging a race long battle for second. Robinson would go on to lead every lap, and captured his first Stock Car main event win, ahead of Chri McInerney, Mark Lockhart, Brendan Moore, and Spencer Carlson. The dash win went to Brendan Moore, with the heat race win going to Tyler Robinson.
The Keg Late Models lined up for their last main event of the season, with Mike Soppitt and Ken Jorgansen leading the field to the green. Soppitt would lead for the first eighteen laps, before being passed by a hard charging Wade Bland. With nine laps to go and a half lap lead, Bland’s engine went south, giving the lead to Aaron Wilkie. Wilkie would take his second main event won of the season, ahead of Mike Soppitt, Brent Morris, Ken Jorgansen, and Geoff Morris. The heat race wins went to Geoff Morris and Mike Soppitt.
The next race at Western Speedway is August 27th, with the Wilson & Proctor Big Rigs, featuring the NABRA Big Rigs, LORDCO Auto Parts Demo Series, Nexx Financial Claimers, and Richlock Rentals Capital Drift.
