The Slegg Building Materials Night of Mayhem played host to the fifth round for the LORDCO Auto Parts Demo Series, as well as the Nexx Financial Claimers. The night also featured an exhibition from the Beast Jet Dragster, with driver and owner Jeff Atamain putting on a great show for the fans.
The first main event of the evening was the Mini Figure 8’s, with Stephen Green and Brenda Maber leading the field to the green. Pete Brozik would jump out to an early lead, before Sam Lagan managed to slip by on lap ten. Lagan’s car would stop with two laps to go, handing over the win to Brandon Young. Steve Creasey, Jeff Cole, Sam Lagan, and Brenda Maber rounded out the top five. The dash win went to Tanner Jacobs, with heat race wins going to Rob Newell and Steve Creasey.
The Nexx Financial Claimers were up next, with Mitch Melin and Curtis Boyce leading the field to the green. Boyce would get black flagged for jumping the start, handing the lead over to Mitch Melin. Nolan Perry would take the lead on lap five, and set to work trying to hold off Kevin Knight. A late race restart with four laps to go bunched up the field, but Perry would still be able to grab his first Claimer main event win, followed by Knight, Tyler Clough, Curtis Boyce, and Brian Calderwood. The dash win went to Curtis Boyce, with heat race wins going to Curtis Boyce and Gord Percival.
The Bombers rolled off for a forty lap main, with Mike Noyce and Brian Wakelin leading the field to the green. Noyce would grab the lead early, but Mike Dionne would track down Noyce for the lead on lap ten. On lap seventeen, Brad Aumen would snatch the lead away from Dionne, and started to pull away from the field. A restart with three laps to go allowed Bill Gallacher to challenge for the win, but Aumen would manage to take his first career Bomber main event win, followed by Bill Gallacher, Caleb Van Bree, Sean Whitley, and Bruce Duffus. The dash win went to Mike Dionne, with heat race wins going to Mike Noyce and Dylan Ross.
The Demo Car and Truck main event closed out the night, with Eddy Cooper and Gerry Bernard leading the field to the green. Cooper would jump out to an early lead, with Jaime Morgan in hot pursuit. Morgan would get around Cooper for the lead, only to get a flat left front tire, handing the lead over to George Haywood. Haywood held off a strong charge from Cody Young to claim his first main event win of the season, followed by Cody Young, Jaime Morgan, Brandon Young, and Jules Keir. Dash wins went to Brandon Young and Jaime Morgan, with heat race wins going to Eddy Cooper and Cody Young.
The next race at Western Speedway is July 1st and 2nd, with the Used.ca Mid Season Championship, featuring the AMCA Dwarf Car Invitational, Galaxy Motors Stock Cars, IMS4 Mini Stocks, Marlin Motors Hornets, and the Island Powder Coating Modifieds on Saturday.
