By Cole Sorenson,
The predicted rain for this weekend’s Don Mann Excavating Night at the Races never came, with the sun shining down on the Langford oval. The Keg Late Models were back, as well as the Galaxy Motors Stock Cars, IMS4 Mini Stocks, OTRA, and the Island Dwarf Cars.
In the first fifty lap main for the Keg Late Models, Ray Anderosov and Tony Grant led the field to the green flag. Anderosov would jump out to an early lead, before being passed by Bud Hobbs. Brian Clutchey would bring out the caution on lap nine, setting up a restart. Geoff Morris would take the lead, and wage a race long battle with Wade Bland, with Morris managing to hang on by a car length to take his first main event win of the season, followed by Bland, Shaun Ross, Brent Morris, and Mike Soppit. Heat race wins went to Brian Clutchey and Brent Morris.
The second main event of the night was the Island Dwarf Cars, with Kinser Kennedy and Halina Tayour leading the field to the green. Kennedy would grab the lead on the start, with Brandon French slicing his way through the field, and snatching the lead away on lap nine. French would pull away from the battle for second between Brad Scafe and Brad Struck, and nab his first win of the season. Brad Scafe, Brad Struck, Tovay Helgesen, and Kyle Kennedy rounded out the top five, with the dash win going to Kyle Kennedy, and heat race victories going to Brad Struck and Brad Scafe.
The IMS4 Mini Stocks were the next main event, with Bobby Ryan and Jeremy Waksel leading the field to the green. Ryan would pull out to an early lead, before Ryan Patterson would make a move on the outside for the lead. Patterson checked out on the rest of the field, and held off Caleb Van Bree, Alex Mouner, Bobby Ryan, and Sean Constantine for the win. The dash and heat race win went to Caleb Van Bree.
The OTRA rolled out for their main event, led to the green by Kiff Saunders and Daryl Simpson. Jim Miller managed to take an early lead, before Doug Richens made a move on the outside for the lead on lap six. On lap seven, the caution came out for a three car incident involving Chris Miller, Kiff Saunders, and Daryl Simpson, setting up a restart. Richens would again grab the edge on the restart, and pulled away for his first OTRA win, followed by Joe Dardengo, George Jenson, Kail Beck, and Troy Tarbuck. The dash win went to George Jenson, with heat race wins going to Daryl Simpson and George Jenson.
The Galaxy Motors Stock Cars were the next main event, with Tyler Robinson and Aaron Cameron leading the field to the green. Chris McInerney would grab the lead on lap eight, with Spencer Carlson looking for a way around him. After a tough battle, Carlson would finally get by, and claim his first main event win, followed by McInerney, Brendan Moore, Kyle Cottam, and Gary Smith. The dash win went to Gary Smith, with the heat race wins going to Aaron Cameron and Kyle Cottam.
The second main event for the Late Models had Tony Grant leading the field to the green flag. Ray Anderosov would spin on lap six while battling for the lead to bring out the first caution. On the restart, Brent Morris would take the lead, and start building a big gap over second place Aaron Wilkie. Wilkie would start to track down Morris, but it would be too little too late, as Brent Morris would bring home the win over Aaron Wilkie, Geoff Morris, Wade Bland, and Shaun Ross.
