Western Speedway played host to the Triangle RV Centre Island Team Demo Night on Saturday, featuring the Howie’s Car Corral Total Destruction, and the LORDCO Auto Parts Demo Series. The Demo drivers were finally gifted with gorgeous weather, and put on a good show for the evening.
The first main event was the Mini Figure 8’s, with Brenda Maber and Tanner Jacobs leading the field to the green. Jacobs would jump out to an early lead, before being caught by Daryn Cahill. The caution would come out on lap eight for Brenda Maber, who rolled to a stop in the middle of the intersection. Brandon Young would get around Cahill for the lead on lap twelve, and looked set for victory, until the car slowed on the last lap, handing the lead over to Sam Lagan. Lagan would win his first main event of the season ahead of Daryn Cahill, Brandon Young, Mark Lockhart, and Rob Newell. The trophy dash win went to Rob Newell, with heat race wins going to Tanner Jacobs and Brandon Young.
The Nexx Financial Claimers were the next event, with Mitch Melin and Jason Day leading the field to the green. Melin would jump out to the lead, before Gord Percival would jump to the inside to take the lead. Percival would then be locked in a battle for the lead with Jason Day, but held off Day’s last attempt at getting the lead. The rest of the top five were Allana Jacobs, Daniel David, and Mitch Melin. The trophy dash win went to Nolan Perry, with the heat race win going to Allana Jacobs.
The Bombers rolled off for their main event, with Mark Lockhart and Rich Gerhardt making up the front row. Lockhart would jump out to an early lead, with Bill Gallacher and Brad Aumen charging through the field. On lap fifteen, Gallacher would take the lead from Lockhart, and would drive away for the win over Brad Aumen, Mike Dionne, Sean Whitley, and Garth Armstrong. The trophy dash win went to Terry Leerholm, with heat race wins going to Rich Gerhardt and Brad Aumen.
The Demo Car and Truck main was up next, with Aasen Baker and Eddy Cooper leading the field to the green. Baker would take the lead on the start, with Brandon Young closing the gap in the 3 truck. On lap six Jim Young spun, leaving Troy Tarbuck with nowhere to go. Young’s car suffered heavy damage, and he was out for the rest of the night. On the restart, Brandon Young would pull away from brother Shawn Young, but in turn three on the final lap, Shawn dumped Brandon to take the lead, and the win, with the third Young brother Cody making it a Young family sweep of the top three. Aasen Baker and Troy Tarbuck rounded out the top five. Dash wins went to Brandon Young and Cody Young, with the heat race going to Troy Tarbuck.
The Team Demo Challenge between Team Hansen and Team Langford proved to be a hard hitting affair, with Jake Matthews taking the win for Team Langford in the first full track demo. Dakota Hansen would bring home the win for Team Hansen in the Howie’s Car Corral Total Destruction, defeating teammate Bryce Muir in a final duel for the win.
